Clients should drink plenty of water and have a light meal before their appointment. You want to avoid having low blood sugar, which can lead to nausea or dizziness during/after the massage. Alternatively, eating a large meal right before a massage can lead to discomfort when laying on the table.
Please consider your personal hygiene before your appointment. Please take the time to be clean and showered prior to your massage. I do not love working on sweaty post-workout bodies, sorry!
I recommend refraining from your usual post-shower moisturizing routines to avoid any possible reactions with the lotions and oils I use.
Coming to a session under the influence of any substance will result in the immediate termination of the service, and potential banishment from the studio
Yay! Congratulations on carving out time to tend to yourself. You deserve it!
This is a list of what you should expect out of a massage anywhere you go, not just with me.
The heavy stuff:
Most of all, you will have your autonomy respected. You are entirely in charge of your body and what happens to it. You will never be touched without your consent, or have any boundary you have set crossed. Touching or exposure of the genitals or breasts during a session is inappropriate and unacceptable. Touching any of these areas over or under the sheet by your massage therapist is sexual assault and should be reported, as soon as you are safe to do so.
You will also be held accountable to respectful behavior towards your massage therapist. Touching the practitioner inappropriately, using disrespectful language, intentionally exposing yourself, or soliciting sexual behaviors, will not be tolerated.
You and your massage therapist have the right to terminate the session if any boundary is crossed.
The less heavy stuff:
You can expect to have an initial check in conversation before your session starts. Here we will discuss your health history, goals, and anything currently going on in your body that day. We will also agree to your treatment plan for the session.
You can expect to get undressed to your comfort level. While it is recommended to be completely undressed, your comfort and being able to relax is what is most important. It is never required that you remove a piece of clothing that you are not comfortable taking off.
Once you are undressed to your comfort level, you will get on the massage table, under the top sheet and blanket, in the position the practitioner instructed.
Throughout the session, there will be check-ins about pressure and general comfort. If there is something that you need to change about your session, please communicate with your practitioner. Your comfort is what is most important, so please do not hesitate to speak up.
Some people enjoy conversation during their session, and others enjoy silence. Either is welcome! You might even fall asleep during your session, which is always looked at positively. No need to apologize if you snore or twitch!
You can expect to feel a little loopy or sleepy in the first few minutes after your session. This is often referred to as "massage brain" or a "massage high". Please let your practitioner know if you feel nauseated or lightheaded, we can get you some water and a snack.
And of course, you can expect to feel great after your session! Depending on the intensity of your massage, you may feel some muscle soreness the following day. This is normal and typically subsides within 24 hours.
Yes, there is both free and metered parking in front of the studio.
Unfortunately, the studio is only accessible via one set of stairs.
No. It is just me here in the studio. While there are other massage therapists in the building, we all work independently of each other and do not collaborate on scheduling.
For first sessions, I recommend a 90 minute massage. This allows time for a thorough full body session, and can inform future session goals.
If you are not wanting a full body massage, a 60 minute massage is recommended.
Because I am a business owner, tipping is unnecessary. I charge what my services are worth, as a fair wage to myself. I would much prefer that you invest the money you would spend on tipping into future sessions with me!
However, if the idea of not tipping makes you uncomfortable, I will graciously accept. This will be used as a pay it forward towards clients who cannot afford a full-priced massage. Thank you!
